Stranger Things spoilers follow.
Stranger Things season four is only one week away from hitting our screens after a long, long, long wait. And now Netflix has not only revealed how much to expect, but also released the first eight minutes to get a taste of what’s to come.
Although if viewers were hoping for some light relief to catch up with the kids before being plunged into the psychological horror, then think again. The sneak peek shows a flashback to 1979, years before Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was rescued.
We get a terrifying glimpse into the goings-on in the Hawkins National Laboratories, and in an incredibly graphic turn of events – see the true extent of Eleven’s powers.
From first looks, it seems like season four is going to be an intense ride from start to finish. Netflix has also revealed the way the two volumes of season four will be split up.
Volume I, out on May 27, will consist of seven episodes. Meanwhile, Volume II, out just over a month later on July 1, will air the final two episodes and epic season finale.
In February, the Duffer Brothers revealed that the long wait for the new season will have been worth it, “with nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual-effects shots [and] a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season.”
The end of the last season saw Eleven and the grieving Byers move out of Hawkins to California. So with our core cast of kids split between Hawkins and California, as new and old threats submerge, time will tell if the upside down will be truly defeated.
Stranger Things season 4 will premiere in two parts, on May 27 and July 1 – streaming on Netflix.
