Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower has teased a possible connection between his character Vecna and Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers ahead of the Netflix show’s fifth and final season.
Since season four’s highly-anticipated premiere back in May, this connection between the Upside Down creature and the Hawkins teen has very much been a topic of discussion amongst fans.
From the return of Will Byers’ neck tingling upon re-entering Hawkins following Vecna’s destruction of the town, to fan-made posters with the slogan: ‘It started with Will. It ends with will’, the link between the two is certainly intriguing – and Bower seems to think so, too.
While speaking to NME about what to expect from the show come season five, the actor teased: “I think Vecna and Will have a connection that’s yet to be explored. As a fan, I’d be interested to see more of that.”
It may just be a theory that he’s up for exploring, but Bower did reveal that things aren’t looking too great for the group of misfits now that they’ve royally “pissed” off Vecna.
“[Vecna’s] pissed, he’s properly vexed,” he said. “I don’t think he’s slunk off licking his wounds in misery. He’s rebuilding, and he’s out for blood. It’s like, you’ve really f**king pushed the buttons now, that classic Jason Voorhees thing – you’ve made a big mistake.”
We also know that season five will explore the origins of the Upside Down in more detail.
“We hint at it this season, but the final reveal is going to be in season five, and we’re excited about that,” Ross Duffer said earlier this year.
Matt Duffer added: “[We’ve been] revealing more about the Upside Down, the origins of the Upside Down.”
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
