Eric Kripke created the long-running Supernatural way back in 2005 and has since found another majorly successful series with The Boys. Kripke has also been more than happy to bring back some Supernatural actors to his critically acclaimed show, including Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Jim Beaver as Robert Singer, and, most recently, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler.
Now, it seems like Kripke is ready to bring Jared Padalecki on board, and Padalecki might even appear in scenes alongside Jensen Ackles.
The Winchester Boys
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles co-led Supernatural for 15 years as Sam and Dean Winchester, so seeing them reunite on The Boys would be a treat for fans of both shows.
Kripke’s statements about the possible reunion in an interview with Entertainment Weekly were extremely promising, as he said, “it’s fair” to say that Padalecki would appear in the fifth and final season and that we’ll see him onscreen opposite Ackles’ Soldier Boy. He is also very aware of the demand for this reunion, saying, “it’s occurred to me that putting those two in a scene together would destroy much of the world, and that’s appealing.”
Temper Expectations
Kripke also caveated that, “we’ll see whether it’s right for the story,” so Supernatural and The Boys fans should temper their expectations for now. But even if the two don’t end up sharing the screen, it’s still exciting news that Jared Padalecki is likely going to join the cast. Padalecki himself recently added fuel to the fire during an interview with Variety, saying, “It’s not been written yet, but I think he was saying [the final season] doesn’t even film until 2025,” adding, “So yeah, I’m going to go play in Kripke’s newest playground.”
The Boys Is Doing Its Own Thing
The only question that remains is who the Supernatural star will play in the upcoming season of The Boys. While the Prime Video series still pulls plenty of material from the Garth Ennis comic series it’s based on, it’s safe to say it’s now doing its own thing story-wise. We could see Padalecki playing a character from the comics who hasn’t been introduced yet, or he could play an original role in the show.
No Clues As To Who Padalecki Is Playing
In any case, the casting for The Boys has been pitch-perfect since the beginning, so they’ll almost assuredly find the right role for the Supernatural star to have some fun. Antony Starr as Homelander may have been the most perfect villain casting in recent memory, but Jensen Ackles definitely shined as Soldier Boy. Whether Padalecki plays a good guy or a “good guy” (aka another amoral Supe), it’ll be fun to see what he does with a decidedly more explicit show than Supernatural ever was.
The Reunion Fans Need
If Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles do end up reuniting on screen, it’ll be the first time since Supernatural ended in 2020. With that being said, the two have still worked together since then, with Ackles stepping in to direct an episode of Padelecki’s recently canceled CW series Walker, a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger.
We’ll have to wait and see if an acting reunion happens on the fifth and final season of The Boys, but until then, you can catch new episodes of Season 4 on Prime Video every Thursday.
