Warner Bros Discovery announced that the film is now set for an October 1, 2027 release date. Originally set for October 2025, it was pushed back by a year in March, making this the second year-long delay within a 10-month window.
Reports say that this is due to director Matt Reeves still working on the script, and that the film no longer has a title. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025 (July-September).
James Gunn, who is in charge of the new connected DC Universe – which The Batman isn’t a part of – stated on Threads that he didn’t think the delay was a big deal.
“To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” he wrote. “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians [of the Galaxy] Vol 2 and Vol 3.”
The Batman Part 2’s October 2026 slot has now been taken by an untitled film starring Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise.

Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson’s collaboration with director Bong Joon-ho, the science-fiction doppelgänger drama Mickey 17, has been brought forward by a little bit. It’s gone from April 18 to March 7 in a switcheroo with Michael B Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.
