The Boys actor Jack Quaid is best known for his role as Hughie Campbell, an (initially) powerless man in a world of superheroes. But now he’s playing arguably the most powerful superhero of all time in animated series My Adventures with Superman.

The synopsis for the Adult Swim and HBO Max series describes it as “a serialized coming-of-age story catching up with twenty-somethings Clark Kent, the bright and driven Lois Lane.”

It goes on to say that the iconic duo will be joined by “their best friend Jimmy Olsen as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet.”

The show promises to focus on Clark and Lois as their romance blossoms while he delves into his extra-terrestrial origins and she advances through her career, tied in with Lois’ investigations into Superman’s secret identity.

Yet, we get none of that in the trailer. The short teaser only has time to show Superman doing classic Superman stuff — in this case, saving civilians from a baddie who really has no chance of winning a fight against him.

The first look does give us a tase of the fluid animation style on the show, that has shades of anime and hints of fellow superhero series Invincible.

Furthermore, this is the first solo animated Superman series since 2000 and the DC Animated Universe, so there’s a lot of excitement for this one.

Meanwhile, in the live-action series Superman & Lois the iconic couple are facing more difficulties as a heartbreaking twist threatens their relationship. While it has been confirmed that another Superman movie is on the horizon at DC, with James Gunn onboard as the writer and potentially the director.
