The simple but important photo for the Canadian actor got plenty of support with over a million likes and many messages from celebraties.
The Rhythm Section director Reed Morano called it: “the best passport photo I’ve seen.” Whilst Jeff King, executive producer of the hit Netflix show, told Page: “That’s a keeper.”
Page, who transitioned in 2020, praised for how the superhero series handled the re-introduction of Number Seven as Viktor Hargreeves and not making it the main focus of the character.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I think one of the most special things about this is how it’s handled. It’s not void of emotional moments with the siblings, of course. I think they’re each individually special and in relation to their specific relationship.”
Page continued: “The scene when Luther and Diego are coming down the stairs and Luther’s awkwardness and all these things, there were – simultaneously I’m experiencing all that.
“Because I’ve stepped into this moment where I’m a trans person and perceived that way, and having all these new experiences I didn’t have before,” the actor added.
“Then these scenes were resonating with that, which was really incredible. We don’t see that when we’re not in control of our stories a lot of the time. So it felt really special.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Steve Blackman expressed his pride in the show’s handling and how it was “very important” to work with trans writer Thomas Page McBee and Page on how to incorporate it.
“We wanted it to not be the story of the season. We wanted it to be a story, or part of the story,” Blackman stated to TVLine.
The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix.
