The Lazarus Project season two has added two new stars to its cast — from Netflix’s The Witcher and long-running soap Hollyoaks.
The Lazarus Project follows a secret organisation that is pledged to stopping mass extinction events by making time go backward. The first season starred I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu, Bodyguard’s Anjli Mohindra, Strike’s Tom Burke, Rudi Dharmalingam and Charly Clive.
Now, Royce Pierreson joins the cast after starring in a recurring role as Istredd in The Witcher. He also starred in Line of Duty, Our Girl, and The Irregulars.
Meanwhile, Hollyoaks actors James Atherton also joins the cast. Atherton is best known for playing serial killer Will Savage in Hollyoaks from 2011 to 2015. He also starred in Coronation Street and Casualty.
The Lazarus Project season one aired earlier this year and ended with plenty of twists that set up a second season. Creator Joe Barton – who also created Giri/Haji, as well as wrote episodes of Humans and recent hit The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself – teased a second season and said he had plenty of ideas of what could happen to his characters in a follow-up outing.
“I’ve just got some random ideas,” Barton said. “It wasn’t until I wrote the last episode that I worked out what the ending was going to be.”
Those ideas will now be a reality after the series was renewed in August.
“We are thrilled at the success of series one and at Sky’s recommission. We have bold and ambitious plans for series two which will reunite all our characters in more thrilling and mind-bending adventures,” Barton and producer Johnny Capps said of the news.
