Fans of The Big Bang Theory on CBS may have also started watching the prequel series, Young Sheldon, which is now in its third series. While the narration for the series is by Jim Parsons, who played adult Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon is played by Iain Armitage. The child actor has another hobby which he has become known for thanks to his popular YouTube channel.

Iain Armitage auditioned for the role of Young Sheldon over the Christmas holidays one year at his grandma’s house. He has previously said he had to memorise a couple of pages for a monologue as part of his audition, and was thrilled then he got given the role.

He is no stranger to the world of acting, with his dad Euan Morton being an actor and his mum Lee Armitage being a former stage producer.

Iain has previously starred as Ziggy Chapman in Big Little Lies and in December 2018 he appeared in an episode of The Big Bang Theory.

What fans may not know about the young star is he is also a theatre critic, and this is how he first came into the spotlight. On his YouTube channel Iain Loves Theatre, he reviews the latest stage shows and his videos caught the attention of bosses in the theatre industry.

A couple of agents were keen to sign him up and during the 2015 Tony Awards he even acted as a correspondent for Perez Hilton. Armitage spoke to Build about his work as a theatre critic, which he still keeps up during his busy filming schedule.

He said: “If I quit then I won’t be Iain Loves Theatre so that can’t happen. I love keeping up the reviews and it’s so fun because whereas in a show you have to follow the script, in those reviews. I can sort of go alone with it, I have things I have to think about but I can sort of go off script and have a lot of fun with it and it’s really fun to do them. So I really enjoy that.”

The actor’s last post on his YouTube channel was for a review of The Chorus Line, and he has also reviewed Little Shop of Horrors, Derren Brown: Secret, and The Lightning Thief. Speaking in his video about The Chorus Line he said: “What a wonderful way to start off the new year by seeing such a wonderful show.

“I had known a bit about the show but I had always wanted to see it, when I heard it was going to be playing I was so excited.”

He praised the show for giving the people in the chorus their own story, he said: “They have so much vibrancy and they make the show so much richer.

“You really get to hear the stories of the people in the chorus, [the director] wants to know about their personal lives and know them as people.”

His YouTube channel is popular with fans as he boasts more than 14,000 subscribers, posting videos every few months. Iain, who will be 12 this summer, has found his feet in the world of acting after receiving the Young Artist Award back in 2018 for Best Performance in a TV series.

In the summer of 2019 he was praised for being able to hold his own against famous actors including Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep.

He spoke to W Magazine about how much he loved and admired Meryl, who was added to the cast of Big Little Lies. He said: “She is amazing. The great thing about people like her is she is such a wonderful actress and she raises people to her level.

“You really feel so good, and she gives us fun little acting tips. But she’s just so nice, she is such a wonderful lady.”
