Legacies spoilers follow.
Legacies’ season 3 is happy to please any fans of The Vampire Diaries, with its latest episode featuring a surprise reference to Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore.
After Elena and Damon’s daughter Stefanie was referred to in Legacies’ first season, there have been few call-backs to the Vampire Diaries favourites – until now.
In Thursday’s (April 8) US episode, Alaric Saltzman and his daughter Josie walked home from school together. They stopped outside the Salvatores’ family home, where it was revealed Josie had been staying while attending Mystic Falls High.
After a passing remark from Alaric about how well the house had been re-built, Josie managed to persuade her father to stick around, tempting him with “Aunt Elena’s” cooking.
As well as a reference to an Elena and an “old Salvatore family recipe”, Legacies managed to sneak in a nod to Damon, too. “The last person I want giving you relationship advice is Damon,” Alaric told his daughter, as she opened up about a budding romance.
While it’s unlikely Legacies will ever see the on-screen return of Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerholder, the show’s executive producer Brett Matthews recently reassured fans that there is an open-door policy on the show.
Revealing that the cast of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals are welcome to come back at any time, he said: “There’s always a chance, and if any did, I wouldn’t want to spoil those things.
“If anybody’s dying to come back and dip a toe back into this universe, just tell them to call me.”
Legacies airs on The CW in the US.
