Warning: This article contains MAJOR spoilers for Outlander, Season 7 Episode 16, “A Hundred Thousand Angels.”

The Season 7 finale of Outlander, titled “A Hundred Thousand Angels,” provided some answers while opening the door to many more questions, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead. A bombshell revelation in the episode hinted at the possibility that Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) first daughter, Faith, who was thought to have been stillborn in Season 2’s episode “Faith,” may still be alive.

In a surprising twist, the episode suggests that Faith, believed to have been buried in France, might have lived. The theory emerges when the Pocock sisters, Jane (Silvia Presente) and Fanny (Florrie May Wilkinson), enter the story. The finale’s closing moments imply that Faith could be their mother, a revelation that excites Heughan and raises the stakes for the upcoming season.

“It’s going to pose a lot of questions,” Heughan told TV Insider. “I think it’s something you might see played out throughout much of Season 8. It’s a huge and beautiful moment to also uncover who Fanny is as well.”

The finale sees Jamie and Claire taking Fanny under their care, following Jane’s tragic death. They visit the graveyard to allow Fanny to say goodbye to her sister. Among Jane’s belongings is a locket inscribed with the name Faith. Inside, Claire finds a portrait of her long-lost daughter.

Initially dismissive, Claire’s perspective shifts when she hears Fanny singing “Oh I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” the same song she had sung to Faith after her birth. The poignant moment leads Claire to tell Jamie that she believes Faith survived.

This shocking revelation sets the stage for Season 8 to explore the truth behind Faith’s fate. While Heughan remains tight-lipped about what’s ahead, he hinted at big developments. “You’re going to have to wait like the rest of us,” he teased. “Droughtlander, I promise, will be over, but there’s so much for you to binge and revisit from previous seasons.”

Fans can also anticipate challenges for Jamie in Season 8, including his relationships with William (Charles Vandervaart) and Lord John Grey (David Berry). “Jamie is really stuck between a rock and a hard place with these two,” Heughan admitted. “Things do get better between Jamie and William in some ways; they band together as father and son, but sadly, they’re too late to save Jane.”

Regarding Jamie’s frustration with Lord John, Heughan added, “They’ve been through so much together. There’s clearly care between them, but they’re as stubborn as each other, which makes things complicated.”

As fans await the resolution of these storylines in the show’s final season, Heughan promises that it will be worth the wait. “Season 8 is not going to be easy, and it’s not going to disappoint,” he assured.
