Outlander star Lauren Lyle’s new horror movie Mercy Falls has confirmed a UK release date.
The upcoming film follows a group of friends whose holiday in the Scottish Highlands takes a very dark turn following a tragic accident.
It has now been confirmed that the movie, which comes from Sundown’s Ryan Hendrick, will have a UK cinema release on September 1.
Mercy Falls sees Lyle – known for playing Marsali MacKimmie Fraser in Outlander – as Rhona, who along with her close group of friends Heather (Layla Kirk), Scott (James Watterson), Donnie (Joe Rising) and Andy (Eoin Sweeney) head into the Scottish wilderness “in search of a long-lost family cabin”.
However, their trip “turns into a nightmare when a fatal accident leads to suspicion, bloody betrayal and brutal murder”. Along the way, they also pick up a hitchhiker called Carla (Nicolette McKeown), though “it quickly becomes apparent that things aren’t quite what they seem” with her.
“Arriving at their destination with tensions building and love triangles forming, battle lines are drawn and things take a sinister turn,” the synopsis adds. “With revelations abound, the stakes grow higher and a ferocious fight for survival ensues… will anyone make it out alive?”
Meanwhile, last year Lyle spoke to Digital Spy about why she avoids social media, notably with the pressure of fan reactions.
“I do remember people saying on Twitter [regarding her Outlander character]: ‘If she was my daughter I’d punch her in the face’, and that was something that made me go ‘oh maybe I’ll just stay away from Twitter’,” she recalled.
