Cillian Murphy gives Peaky Blinders fans an update on season 6

Cillian Murphy has given Peaky Blinders an update on the status of series six of the popular drama after filming was shut down due to coronavirus.

Both the Birmingham-set period drama and high-octane police thriller Line of Duty suspended production on their new seasons last month due to the growing nature of the pandemic.

Now, star Cillian – who stars as Tommy Shelby – has offered fans an update on how close they are to returning to the 1920s, saying that the gang will be back ‘as soon as we can.’

‘Sending love and fortitude to Peaky fans everywhere,’ the Quiet Place II said during a live chat on Instagram. ‘We will be back as soon as we can, I promise, causing chaos and knocking heads as usual.

‘I want to send a special thank you to all our widely talented crew for all their hard work and their talent, for their forbearance and patience during this time.’

Director Anthony Byrne also assured dedicated viewers that as soon as restrictions were lifted on filming, the Shelby’s would be back with a vengeance.

‘Rest assured as soon as we can get back out filming, we certainly will,’ he promised.

After announcing the shutdown, a BBC spokesperson said: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, the producers Caryn Mandabach Productions and Tiger Aspect Productions of Peaky Blinders S6 have postponed filming, and World Productions on Line of Duty S6 have suspended filming, both in consultation with and supported by the BBC.

‘We will continue to review all productions on a case-by-case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organization and Public Health England.’
