Stranger Things star David Harbour, better known as Jim Hopper since the show aired its first season in 2016, has revealed a specific request he made while on set for the Netflix series.
Speaking on Hot Ones, Harbour shared that he strongly disliked the Byers family pet – Chester the dog – with its on-set misadventures leading him the request it was killed off the show.
“I hated that f***ing dog so bad,” Harbour said during his interview on the YouTube series.
“Take after take it would wander off or do something. And then I remember the trainer on the sidelines going, ‘Come on! We got to make our money!’ Yeah, I walked up to them, and I was like, ‘You know, the Byers should probably have that dog put to sleep next season.'”
It seems that Harbour’s request was granted (minus the killed-off part), as Chester has not been seen on Stranger Things since, and the show gave no explanation for the disappearance.
Harbour added that it was “never” spoken about and suggested that it would be good to see Chester in one of the show’s future seasons.

Harbour explained: “We never talk about it the whole rest of the show. We should find it in the Upside Down in one of these future seasons.”
Stranger Things season three ended on intense terms for Harbour’s character Jim as he was imprisoned in a Russian gulag. Elsewhere, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) left Hawkins with her family and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix.
